Living here in Mallorca we are lucky to have, right on our doorstep a first class view of the Princess Sofia Trophy for Olympic classes. This is the 44th year of the competition. The races are held in the Bay of Palma from the 30th March to 6th April. Previous British winners include Sir Ben Ainslie & Nick Dempsey. Approximately 800 of the top world class sailors from 53 different countries, of all Olympic & Paralympic classes will participate, with Kite boarding as an invited class. It is the first European event of the ISAF Sailing World Cup & has been chosen by ISAF to test the racing format to be used at the Rio 2016 Olympics. Arenal & CanPastilla, normally quiet at this time of year, become a hive of industry with the beaches closed off & full of boats , the hotels are busy & of course the bars!!!. The place comes alive for almost a month with pre training competitions & all the people who are involved in the races, making this a unique & special event.
