GB Rower To Make Guest Appearance at RNLI Open Day
The organisers of the RNLI Open Day and Boat Jumble on Saturday 17th July at Baltic Wharf, Totnes are pleased to announce that fresh from another bronze medal in the world rowing championships in Lucerne, local boy Bill Lucas has promised to make a guest appearance on the day. Bill Lucas, originally from Kingswear, is former U23 world rowing champion and now competes in the highly coveted men’s quadruple scull alongside Stephen Rowbotham, Charles Cousins and Sam Townsend.
The bronze medal in Lucerne is added to the impressive tally this year. The same team won a bronze in Munich and took an impressive win at Henley in the Queen Mother Challenge.
This addition promises to add more excitement to an already packed day with the Dart RNLI D-Class lifeboat on the water and promising to put on a man overboard display (subject to operational commitments). Totnes Rowing Club, Totnes Sub-Aqua Club and Totnes Kayaks will also be on the water with displays and the opportunity to try out their range of kayaks and canoes. It is hoped that weather permitting, Bill Lucas will also row a challenge match against the best from Totnes Rowing Club Ashore, to keep everyone in the mood, the Nauti Bouys shanty band will be playing and refreshments will be available throughout the day.
Owners of yachts for sale through Boatshed Dartmouth have also been invited to come alongside the quay. Weather permitting the beautiful and classic 12 ton Hillyard will run up the river to come alongside as long as the tide allows. Also alongside will be the stunning Admirals Tender which is also for sale through Boatshed Dartmouth.
Entry to the day is free and there is ample parking on site. Boat jumble pitches are £5 for cars and £10 for vans with all the proceeds to the RNLI. Baltic Wharf Boatyard is located on St Peter’s Quay, Totnes, postcode TQ9 5EW.
