With moorings and marina berths still in short supply on the beautiful River Dart, a great alternative facility is available at Blackness Marine. Located on the banks of the West side of the River Dart, between East Cornworthy and Dittisham, Blackness Marine provides secure undercover and outside storage plus launching facilities from their own slipway. That alone is a major feature with the complete lack of public slipways on the Dart and those that there are, often heavily congested at peak times.

Blackness Marine offers:
• Drystack Launch & Recovery Membership
• DIY, Slipway and Tender Memberships
• Secure indoor and outdoor boat storage
• Craneage
• All aspects of boat maintenance
• All day parking

The slipway is accessible 85% of the time and its certainly true that the owners of Blackness Marine deliver a ‘can do’ attitude so all customers receive a level of care ensuring they know that their boat is as important to us as it is to them!

How it all started
The owners saw the limited launch and recovery options on the Dart due to limited parking and very few public slipways and decided that with a mile of river frontage on the farm, to diversify in this direction. Blackness Marine was supported under the England Rural Development Programme by DEFRA and the European Agricultural Guidance and guarantee fund as a diversification project which would not have been possible without a partial Rural Development Service Grant to promote farm diversification. The initial planning application was backed up by a survey done by Devon Wildlife Trust with input from the Environment Agency and English Nature. Blackness Marine are also members of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme.

Since starting up, Blackness Marine have evolved and as of 2010 they have a new pontoon to enable safer and easier launching. Blackness Marine have also invested in Dry stack to accommodate the demand for the Launch & Recovery Membership and are looking to add yet more dry stack during 2011 with continuing strong demand.
