Abersoch Keelboat Week kicks of this Sunday and Boatshed North Wales is delighted to be sponsoring this prestigious sailing event for the third year. This year is promising to be bigger and better than ever and the Regatta will also be the North West IRC Championships and will be raced under the burgee of South Caernarfonshire Yacht Club (SCYC).

After an enormously successful 2010, the Sigma 33 Class has retained its Class start in 2011 and look like to exceed 2010’s entry of eight boats.

SCYC enjoys a reputation for excellent race organisation and Cardigan Bay has to be one of the best yachting venues in the UK. The sailing is always competitive with a friendly atmosphere and those rail-riding can lap up the superb views of the Snowdonia mountain range, stunning sandy beaches and interesting islands.

Visiting yachts can be assured of a warm welcome. Visitors can choose between a marina berth at Hafan Pwllheli - Pwllheli Marina Complex - or can have a visitors mooring in the sheltered waters off South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club in Abersoch. The Club’s full facilities are open to visiting yachtsmen and their families.

The venue offers pristine sailing waters with no commercial traffic. Tides, such as they are, are fair and local knowledge will not play a part in this Regatta. For families left ashore, the clean, sandy beaches are perfect for water sports and on calm days you may even see dolphins playing close offshore or take a trip to the islands and see the seals basking in the sun.

There is a packed social itinerary and sailors and visitors to SCYC will get to party the night away to the beat of several local bands playing throughout the week.

The team at Boatshed North Wales wishes all the organisers and participants fair winds and a superb week of sailing.
