If you love Moody, Bavaria, Jeanneau or Beneteau sail boats then this love affair could be doing the world an ecological favour. If your boat is powered by wind energy you can be proud that your boating is an earth-friendly eco-activity. You will of course use fuel when there is no wind, when heading into the wind or when navigating narrow channels but your sail boat will use far less fuel than a powerboat.
Back in 1946 boat builders J&G Forbes of Sandhaven in Scotland built a sturdy 53’ fishing vessel named Capella. She was taken south to work the fishing grounds off the Devon and Cornish coasts. Many years later she was converted to a SCUBA diving vessel but when the business fell on hard times she was purchased by a new owner in 1994 who fell in love with her and decided to spend the next few years and quite a few pennies restoring and converting her to a lovely live-aboard motor cruiser, now named McAlister.
Boatshed Brixham are delighted to offer for sale a well-presented Jeanneau 40DS. The 40DS, like her slightly larger 43DS, is extremely spacious and the three cabin and two heads layout makes excellent use of space especially for the larger family where the children for example, might prefer their own cabin.

Boatshed Dartmouth are delighted to offer for sale a Vancouver 27. The Vancouver 27 was designed by Canadian, Robert B. Harris. In 1974 the first wooden hull was built in England, by Pheon Yachts, and shortly afterwards the design was changed to GRP, with a slight extension to the waterline beam. Due to the high build quality, the UK-built Vancouver 27s became a popular design, with around 250 built, before Northshore took over the design in 1986.The Vancouver 27 design is biased towards stability, ease of handling, load carrying ability and comfortable accommodation for a crew of one or two. This Vancouver 27 is well equipped and well presented. Her light wood interior is very pleasing and she benefits from a recently installed Beta engine. Appointments to view can be booked in advance 6-days a week directly with Paul Singer your Boatshed Dartmouth broker.
Saint Nicolas is the patron saint of boatmen or marinier as the French bargees are known. St Nicolas day is December 6th and the residents of the Port of Roanne in central France celebrated it in style. A “fete” traditionally focused around children and a foretaste of Christmas. This year Saint Nicolas arrived by boat, gliding across the dark and icy waters of the marina and stepped ashore to distribute sweets and biscuits to the assembled children (of all ages). Well into my second childhood (and second helping) I especially loved the Papillottes a local Roannaise Christmas speciality made with chocolate. Carols were sung in English by a very international choir, there are at least ten nationalities represented, wintering over in the port this year. An Alsacian folklore dance group came and entertained us with traditional dance, costume & music from a region where the St. Nicolas is a very popular fete. The whole affaire was rounded off with much appreciated hot mulled wine and everyone agreeing that the festive season had commenced for real.
