Hector Sheppard-Capurro is the founder of the yachting industry in Gibraltar and today at the ripe old age of 87 he's bought a Princess 415 motor yacht from Boatshed Gibraltar.  How cool is that? That you can be 87 and be planning to mess around in boats. This shows the indomitable spirit that has served him well in a colourful and successful business career.

Boatshed Croatia Goes Sailing!

Boatshed Croatia Goes Sailing!

Tuesday, 26 July 2011

Finally we are leaving our home port and heading on south, towards Dalmatia. I hope that down there weather will be better and that we will spend several nice days on the sea. Todays weather looks more like early spring than middle of summer. Since we are planning most of the time cruising around Kvarner and Zadar area we will visit some marinas and ports and negotiate some potential listing requirements. This cruise should be a win-win situation because along with “business” obligations we are also planning to have lot of fun, swimming and tasting some good Mediterranean meal and wine. So if you have boat for sale in above mentioned area do not hesitate to contact us. If you spot a Boatshed flag on a mooring near you feel free to come for a chat and share a glass of wine!

Island Harbour Marina news

Island Harbour Marina news

Wednesday, 20 July 2011

On a ‘cold and wet and very windy’ weekend in July (well the 16th to be precise), the tranquil setting of Island Harbour Marina was broken with the crackle of the VHF.............. Yes it had begun!!!!! The Broom owners association were arriving on mass closely followed by the Fairey owners association, and of course as you can imagine.... not a flicker of rivalry between them!

Visiting the London 2012 Olympics by boat?

Tuesday, 19 July 2011

The 2012 Olympics will bring millions of visitors to the UK - and most of them into central London. The transport implications of this will present a logistical nightmare for the organisers, who don't really seem to have got their heads around how to deal with water-borne visitors.

19th Annual Camano Rendezvous!

Monday, 18 July 2011

Tradition was broken this year when the 19th Annual Pacific Northwest Camano Rendezvous was held in the US instead of Thetis Island, BC. Camano Trolls, Camano Gnomes, Camano 41’s and the recently-launched Bracewell 41 were gathered at the Lopez Islander Resort in Fisherman Bay on Lopez Island. Attendance was smashing this year with 32 vessels and 64 Camano enthusiasts! Food, spirits, activities, conversation, prizes and fun were abundant. A great time was had by all!

Walking with the Wounded

Walking with the Wounded

Saturday, 16 July 2011

As most of us do, I take customers at face value. We talk and through the process, we find out a bit about each other but sometimes we shouldn't just take things as we see them. Prime example. At Boatshed Sussex, I have just finalised the sale of a Rinker 246 Captiva Liberty Edition Cuddy to a man that I know as Mr Simon Daglish. He is a very pleasant guy to speak to and to deal with, but beneath this calm and eloquent exterior lies a fascinating man. Simon is a Director of ITV, having previously been Vice President Commercial Director for Fox Media, whose portfolio houses MySpace amongst others and Sales Director for Channel 4. A succesful man in his field but there are still hidden depths. A Google search reveals that he is one of the organisers and participant in the Walking with the Wounded expedition to the North Pole earlier this year. I broached this with him whilst we were sitting on his new boat and he went on to tell me that he also took part in the walk to the South Pole and rowed across the Atlantic for charity. For me, this is not just a customer, it is a remarkable man and one that I immediately decided that Boatshed Sussex would be proud to associate ourselves with. An instant decision was made to donate part of our commission from the sale of the boat to the charity that he has worked so hard to support and without further thought, we wrote the cheque out. OK, now the sting in the tail, if you like, we agree that people like Simon go to extraordinary lengths to help our wounded servicemen and women whilst we do very little, so please join us in making a donation to this fine cause. We have done so in the name of Boatshed Sussex and if any of you out there feel that you would like to help out, please contact me or go to www.walkingwiththewounded.org.uk where details of how to contribute are fully explained. Simon has promised us a mention in his blogs and on his facebook / myspace etc. and he will do the same for any other Boatshed that is generous enough to contribute. The very least we can do is return the favour because what you see is not always what you get. Something that we should all remember. Keith, Boatshed Sussex

James Wharram - Legendary Catamaran Designer

Boatshed Plymouth is pleased to have listed a Wharram Tiki 26 catamaran at an asking price of £6,950. The Tiki 26 was designed for those who want to do more serious coastal cruising. She can be trailed and easily beached (to step off in ankle-deep water); sleeps two in the hulls, leaving room for a small galley and chart table but accommodation can be increased with a deck tent, giving space for double bunk. Her ocean-going abilities have since been proven in various ocean crossings.

Boatshed Newport watches The Trans-Atlantic Race, and old friends on The Maltese Falcon!

Tuesday, 05 July 2011

This week saw the start of the Trans-Atlantic Race 2011, with a host of yachts leaving Newport, Rhode Island between June 26th and July 3rd. 26 yachts started through three start days, one of them with some special relations for Boatshed Newport. The boat in question is the spectacle that is the 289’, three masted Perini Navi, The Maltese Falcon, which was built by Tom Perkins. Both Rob and Ali worked aboard another of Tom Perkins’ boats, the classic motor yacht, Atlantide. Rob was First Mate aboard Atlantide, and has sailed on the Falcon a number of times, and we are still good friends with a lot of the crew. It was great to see them here in Newport, and we wish them the best of luck in the Trans-Atlantic Race, and hope to see them here again soon!

Dry Stack Facility – On the River Dart!

Dry Stack Facility – On the River Dart!

Saturday, 02 July 2011

With moorings and marina berths still in short supply on the beautiful River Dart, a great alternative facility is available at Blackness Marine. Located on the banks of the West side of the River Dart, between East Cornworthy and Dittisham, Blackness Marine provides secure undercover and outside storage plus launching facilities from their own slipway. That alone is a major feature with the complete lack of public slipways on the Dart and those that there are, often heavily congested at peak times.
