The modern Fairline Phantom 48 long range cruiser really epitomises British Boat Building at it’s best. I am lucky enough to have been on board, photographed and had a lovely cruise on a couple of these magnificent long range motor cruisers. I also have a couple of these motor boats for sale, so I thought I have created a boat review for the Fairline Phantom 48 based on the boats for sale that I have on my yacht brokerage based in Kent. The Fairline Phantom 48’s that I went out on are the modern shaped design, 2008 models and both boats look as good as a new 2011 model.

Boatshed Medway wanted to know ...... are current Fairline Phantom 48 boats modern and contemporary?
The 2008 models really propelled the Phantom 48 into the forefront of luxury cruisers in this range, with more elegant European qualities but not compromising the quality of the boat building process. These motor boats ooze quality and the design/ development will ensure the longevity of Fairline boats market share for years to come. The great thing too is that Fairline boats are still produced in Oundle, so something British to be proud of. Of course Bernard Olesinski must take credit for his fantastic ability for yacht design. He has contributed so much to the marine industry with his ability to move with the times and meet the demands of the modern day cruising family.

Boatshed Medway wanted to know ......are they comfortable enough to enjoy as a live-aboard.?
Yes, yes yes. So light and airey, such a lovely choice of quality light raw, American Oak which gives that feeling of luxury, warmth and perfect ambience. Even if it is dull outside you will always feel uplifted by the pleasant environment. Inspired by ‘home to home’ interior design, all ‘mod cons’ too. Spacious as ever. The mid-ships full beam Stateroom with en-suite is really something special with its panoramic window. There is some much attention to detail that you will have to come and see the Fairline Phantom 48 for yourself if you are thinking of acquiring a luxury yacht of this size.

Boatshed Medway wanted to know ......Fairline Phantom 48... beautiful, but is the ride great too?
Both helms ensure you have great visibility and ensure you can go cruising come rain or shine. I have to confess I am a bit of a sailor at heart so obviously it is the flybridge helm that excites me. I was really impressed by the smoothness on ascending the plane, and I noted that the spray is forced to the back due to the clever propeller tunnel , chine and strake design. This Fairline Phantom 48 motor cruiser was in total obeyance, pounding out 28 knots at 2400rpm and 22 knots at 2200rpm quietly and effortlessly. The decks are all very safe and user friendly. The flybridge is relatively low profile and this makes the Phantom 48 feel very safe. She turns on a sixpence and is so easy to berth.

Boatshed Medway wanted to know......now we have been cruising, what about the sociable side?
Where do I start.... again on the Flybridge. The moulded steps take you safely to this sophisticated area. You can comfortably seat 8 people to dine alfresco, enjoy food served from the Barbie, whilst relaxing with a cool drink and ice straight from the icemaker. If you want to make the most of the rays then just convert the c-shaped aft lounge into a sunlounge area. If it gets a bit too hot then the bimini will come in handy. If it is a cold day then of course you can retire to the comfort of the aft-deck and beautifully appointed interior lounge area.

Boatshed Medway’s conclusion.......
Fabulous motor cruiser, fabulous live-aboard accommodation, and fabulous ride. Quite simply Fabulous Fairline.
